Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara under the aegis of The Department of Human Excellence organized a one-day talk series on Cybersecurity on 13th August 2024. The event aimed to enhance the understanding of cyber threats and promote responsible digital behavior among students and faculty.

The program commenced for the forenoon session at 9:00 AM with a welcome address by Ms. Asha Sudheesh, Head of the Department of Human Excellence. The gathering was further addressed by the Executive Director Rev Dr Devis Chenginiyadan, Principal Dr K L Joy and Vice Principal Dr Karuna K, each emphasizing the importance of cybersecurity in today’s digital landscape.

The talk series was led by cybersecurity expert Adv.  Jijil Joseph, who engaged the audience with insightful discussions on various cybersecurity threats, online privacy, and practical security strategies. He also explored the legal frameworks surrounding cybersecurity and shared best practices for incident response protocols.

Mr. Jijil delivered a comprehensive analysis of the multifaceted cyber threats that both individuals and organizations encounter in the modern digital landscape. He provided a detailed examination of various types of cyber-attacks, including phishing schemes, malware infections, data breaches, and ransomware attacks. Each of these threats, he noted, has the potential to cause significant harm to both personal and institutional security, ranging from unauthorized access to sensitive information to the complete disruption of digital operations.

In addition to outlining these threats, Mr. Jijil underscored the growing importance of online privacy and the critical need for robust data protection measures. He emphasized that with the rapid advancement of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT)—new vulnerabilities are being introduced into digital systems. These technologies, while offering tremendous benefits, also expand the potential attack surface for cybercriminals. As such, there is a pressing need to implement stronger security protocols to address these evolving risks

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Reshmi Rajan from the HED. The event drew a large audience of students and faculty members, reflecting the growing interest in cybersecurity education.
