The Department of Mathematics organized “TILASTOT2021, observing National Statistics Day on June 29, 2021. As a part of this, the department conducted a poster-making competition for the students of SCAS. The topic for the poster-making competition was “Covid-19 Pandemic and Statistics. The department also conducted a webinar for the second semester B.Sc. CS, Psychology and Mathematics and V semester B.Sc. Mathematics students of SCAS. The topic of the webinar was “Legacy of Statistics in India, Opportunities & Careers” by Dr. Krishna E., Rtd. Associate Professor in Statistics, St. Joseph’s College for Women, Alappuzha, and former faculty of Department of Mathematics, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara.Vice-principal and head of the department Dr. Rani M. J. welcomed the audience followed by the presidential address by Executive Director Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan. Principal Dr. Mathew Paul Ukken and former principal Dr. Jenson P. O. addressed the audience. The talk by Dr. Krishna E. dealt with the life of the Indian Statistician P. C. Mahalanobis, introduced famous Indian statisticians, and detailed the career scope for Statistics. She also provided the list of courses and colleges in which one can pursue higher education in Statistics.
