Communicative Skills

Today, English is not just a medium of communication; it is more of a Life skill. As the pandemic rages on, language becomes more important than ever. The WFH (Work from Home culture, online communication, Telephonic interactions etc.) have made Communicative skills, especially in English – aptly called the Universal Language, one of the Top 10 skills needed for an entry into a professional job. It has now become a prerequisite for clearing interviews, thus playing a very important role in shaping the destiny of a Student.

Communicative skills and English language proficiency are therefore two major areas that need to be strengthened. Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies recognizes this fact and thus offers the internationally acclaimed Cambridge PET (Preliminary), BEC (Business English Certificate) and CAE (Cambridge Advanced English) for language proficiency along with in-house courses in Communicative Skills catering to the nuances of Netiquettes, using appropriate words as per the contextual situations, verbal and nonverbal communication etc. thereby ensuring student’s success in today’s business world. Thus practical knowledge of using a language along with an internationally acclaimed certificate combined with training from the Placement division ensures that Sahrdayans leave their mark with a high success percentage. The courses are conducted by competent and experienced faculty from the Department of Human Excellence of Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies

Students were encouraged to speak their ideas freely in every class so that they become confident in speaking. More emphasis was given for improving their spoken language. Each student is given chance to speak about a topic of his/her choice in the class. Special attention was given for helping students to come out of their inhibitions from speaking and gaining confidence to face an audience.

864 students were benefited due to the communicative English course across the college during the academic year 2016-17.

Daily Newspaper reading was made mandatory for students across the college. Every day the 5th hour  was allotted for newspaper reading activity for 10 minutes. Teachers attending the classes in the 5th hour will dedicate the allotted time to help students scan the headlines of the day. This was to encourage the reading habit of students and ensure students utilize the newspaper to improve their communicative skills and general knowledge.

Students were also given practice in expressing their ideas on a topic or article in the newspaper.

Sessions on Group discussion and presentations were also conducted in the class. Each group was given a topic in advance and they had to present the topic in the class. Involvement of each student in the group was ensured

As a part of speaking, special sessions on J A M were introduced in the class.

Apart from teaching other responsibilities also were taken up by the faculty. Some of them are

  • Maintaining discipline especially during the morning assembly and on various functions
  • Arranging event
  • Other duties entrusted by the college from time to time.

1024students were benefited due to the communicative English course across the college during the academic year 2019-20.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic classes were conducted on line. Participation of students were very encouraging. Maximum effort have been taken to ensure active involvement of students during the classes.

Combo hours were also introduced. On all Thursdays the 6th and 7th hours were considered as combo hours and students were given training in the respective subjects they opted for.

Training for IELTS was given for the second year students. Students were given practice materials through online as a part of exercise in the class for each skill. All worksheets were compiled digitally. Apart from the four skills grammar and essential vocabulary developing practice were also given in the class.
