Women Development Cell
The Women Development Cell at Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies comes under the ambit of Department of Women’s Studies, Calicut University and is constituted according to the instructions of Calicut University. The Department of Advanced Studies at Calicut University was formed in 2005 with the objective of empowering women, to help create legal awareness in them and to develop a batch of young men and women to act as agents of social change. The University functions as the nodal agency for coordinating the activities of the Women Development Cells in its affiliated colleges.
The Women Development Cell at Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies is a forum formed in the year 2016-17 that constitutes both student volunteers and teaching faculty. Five girl student volunteers from each class are selected each year according to their role numbers and continuing with the next consecutive role numbers in the following year. Every year the Cell is constituted with members of the staff as well as student volunteers. The Cell is formed primarily for the empowerment and upliftment of its girl students and to instill in them self-confidence and courage to overcome the hurdles in their lives and to educate them of their legal rights.
The guidelines governing the Cell to achieve the above-mentioned goal for its girl students is to envisage ways and means to help open new horizons for them to a bright future and to inspire them to take bold and strong steps in their lives for their betterment. Keeping this in view, the Cell is to conduct awareness programs as well as seminars and talks by prominent personalities in their respective fields. The inspiration gained from attending such seminars and webinars would equip the students to face the challenges of the life ahead at the end of their curriculum.
