The French Revolution was a time of social and political upheaval in France and its colonies that began in 1789 and ended in 1799. Inspired by liberal and radical ideas, Its overthrow of the Monarchy influenced the decline of absolute Monarchies in other parts of Europe. To commemorate the National Day of France (14th July) also known as the Bastille Day, the Western and Eastern Language Department, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara organized an assembly in French on 15th July 2022.
The French assembly was conducted by the French students of second year BA/BSc. The assembly started at 9 am and concluded at 9: 20 am. Amrutha Nair, II BSc Psychology was the compere who started the assembly by mentioning the reason for the French assembly. Followed by the college prayer. To invoke spirituality to all, Alit P Saji, II BSc Psychology, read the Holy Bible. Arlene Salil, II BSc, shared the thought to have a positive vibe in mind for the day. A robust vocabulary improves all areas of communication. Angel Rose, II BA English presented amazing facts about the French Revolution. Neha Biju, II BA English introduced the word for the day “déjà vu”. We chose this word to create awareness among the students about loan words in English from the French language. Mr K Satish Nair, Head, Human Excellence department updated the SCAS news which was followed by the messages from Fr. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan, Executive Director, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies and Dr Mathew Paul Ukken, Principal, Sahrdaya Collge of Advanced Studies. Amrutha Nair concluded the assembly with a quote “Unite we stand, divided we fall, a lesson taught by the French revolution.
