“Aranyakam –  One-day nature camp

The Department of Social Work organized a one-day nature camp, “Aranyakam,” on 17th August 2024, in collaboration with Chimmony Wildlife Sanctuary. The participants included 33 individuals, comprising 1st and 2nd-year MSW students and faculty members from the Social Work department.

The camp commenced with an introductory session by Mr. Bestin, Sectional Forest Officer, who provided essential guidelines for the trek. He emphasized the importance of maintaining silence and adhering to the forest guides’ instructions. During the trek, the guides shared valuable information about various species of animals, plants, and trees within the forest. Additionally, participants learned about the medicinal properties of certain plants and the unique characteristics of the animals inhabiting the area.

The second session was led by Mr. Dharmaraj, an environmentalist and writer, who spoke to the participants about eco-friendly living. He spoke to the participants about eco-friendly living and explained how to use the ecosystem in a sustainable manner to conserve the environment. He also shared some indigenous knowledge and practices for nature conservation. The session concluded with a feedback session from the trainees and a vote of thanks given by a 2nd-year MSW trainee. The session proved to be an effective team-building exercise for the participants.
