OBJECTIVE

*To help students adapt to the new teaching styles and techniques applied in the new system.

A Student Induction Programme- Deeksharambh is always a special occasion for SCAS because it’s the beginning of a new year with the college full to the core, new faces and new dreams.

Day 1

The induction programme for the academic year 2023-24 was held on 24th July 2023. The registration started at 8:45 am. The programme started with Rangapooja and Holy scripture readings. The welcome address was made by Dr. Mathew Paul Ukken, Principal, SCAS. He extended a very cordial welcome to all the dignitaries of the function.

The keynote address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan, Executive Director, SCAS. He spoke about the world of Sahrdaya, inviting all students to be active participants in the fulfilment of the vision and mission of the college. He advised the students about the good practices to be cultivated in college, envisaging the role of each one to be played for the better future of the college in general and students in particular.

Mr. Arun B.K, Station house Officer of Koratty, rendered an awareness programme on Anti Narcotics. He cautioned the students about the protocol if they are caught using the drugs or even if they unconsciously become the carriers. He gave a detailed session on the increased use of drugs among youth in society, the dangers behind the consumption of drugs, necessary instructions and information for both students and parents to get rid of this social issue. He also shared his personal experience from his professional life.

Lamp lighting inauguration of Deeksharambh and Anti- Narcotics Cell activities was launched by Ms. Aishwarya Dongre IPS, Superintendent of Police, Thrissur Rural. She enthralled the students about her career. She narrated about her experience and struggles she had to face during her training period. She also explained the students that only if they work hard they will have a successful career.

Memento for the chief guest was presented by Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan, Executive Director, SCAS.

It was followed by the academic overview presentation and World of Sahrdaya by Dr. Mathew Paul Ukken, Principal, SCAS with a view to being familiarized by the newcomers in the college. This is to facilitate the students’ acquaintance with the college with the aim of smooth conduct of the academic and non-academic activities.

Dr. Joy K L, Vice Principal, explained the SCAS Code of Conduct in which the rules and regulations that should be followed by students are clearly explained to maintain the strict discipline of the college. This is to ensure all students in the college adhere to the ethos of the college so that they come out successfully, not only in academics but also in the formation of character, which is the hallmark of Sahrdaya.

His Excellency Mar Paul Kannookadan, Bishop, Irinjalakuda Diocese and Chairman – IDET rendered the presidential address. He motivated the students with his inspiring words.

The event marked the launch of Library software “KOHA” and SCAS Handbook Inauguration by Msgr. Wilson Erathara, Manager IDET. Dr. Shaji. B motivated the students on the importance of reading.

It followed the SCAS Travel and amenities guidelines presentation by Rev. Fr. Anto Vattoly, Finance Officer, SCAS, in which Father, gave a detailed description of the transport facilities available and guidelines for students using transportation.

Sri. A.R. Davis, PTA President, spoke about the role of parents in supporting academics for the future of every student. It was from the perspective of a parent. He also extended full support to the college and its all activities keeping in view of the secure future of all stakeholders in the process of learning.

This was followed with the speech by Prof. Thomas V.J., Dean of Commerce and Management studies, introduced the world of Commerce and Management studies. He explained the students about the importance of being professionally skilled in this competitive world.

Dr. Joy K.L, Vice Principal and Dean of Science Department introduced the world of Science to the parents and students. He explained the students about the pursuit and application of knowledge and understanding of natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence.

Prof. Dr. Sanil Raj, Dean of Arts, introduced the world of Arts to the parents and students. He explained the importance of communication and also on how to avoid the colloquial language influence. This was followed by Dr, Paul Chacko, HOD, Department of Physical Education. He explained about the importance of staying healthy and fit. He gave an overall idea on the Physical Education Department and Fitness World, another feature of SCAS

Technical enhancement is a part of growth that stimulates the development of any institution. To have a clear understanding of the use of Linways, Asst. Prof Ms. Jaymol James from Dept. of Computer Science explained about the technical enhancement (Linways), in which the students are introduced to the characteristics of the software and its proper use.

Mr. Satish Nair, HoD, Human Excellence Department, proposed a Vote of Thanks. The induction programme came to an end with closing instructions for the students and the National Anthem.

 

INDUCTION PROGRAMME

Inauguration of DEEKSHARAMBH 2023-24 (25th July 2023)

DAY 2

The bridge course for the first year UG students, 2023-24  started on 25th July 2023. The entire bridge course was planned at two different venues according to the courses and was planned and executed by the Human Excellence Department. In venue 1 (Seminar Hall), all all BA, BSc, BBA students were gathered for the bridge course. In venue 2 (Decennial Hall), all commerce batch students were gathered.

Venue 1 – Seminar Hall

The student registration started at 8:45 am. The programme started with an invocation. Dr. Mathew Paul Ukken, Principal, SCAS delivered the Principals message.

Dr. Joy K L, Vice Principal, SCAS delivered the introductory message, and Deans Address.

Prof. Dr. Sanil Raj, Dean of Arts, introduced the world of Arts to the parents and students. He explained the importance of communication and also on how to avoid the colloquial language influence.

Librarian, SCAS library, Dr. Shaji. B motivated the students on the importance of reading.

‘Signature’, Introduction of the Department of Human Excellence was done by the faculty members of the Department according to the courses they handle.

It followed the SCAS Travel and amenities guidelines presentation by Rev. Fr. Anto Vattoly, Finance Officer, SCAS, in which Father, gave a detailed description of the transport facilities available and guidelines for students using transportation.

It was followed by a campus tour for the students according to the groups they are divided into and accompanied by faculty members from the Human Excellence Department. It made them aware of the college and its wonderful amenities that are available to the students for use in the college and the various departments, library, sports arena, medical facility, study areas, canteen and so on.

Prof. Chandrasekharan K P, HOD, Physics Department, gave a talk on the Anti ragging committee.

An overall idea of extension activities (NCC & NSS) was given by Asst. Prof. Mr. Jickson Jose Asst. Prof. Ms. Hira. K respectively.

It was followed by the presentation of Dr. Abraham Joseph, Dept of Value Education on DOVE. Value Education (DOVE) presented the essentials of value education which is being followed as a part of curriculum under the University of Calicut.

 

 

Ms. Asha Sudheesh, Asst Professor, spoke in the Department of CAE (Cambridge Assessment English).

Asst. Prof. Shiji V K, Convenor, Sapthasadas gave an overall idea on Sapthasadas. This is a special feature of SCAS in order to encourage and foster the aesthetic and artistic talents of our students. As the name suggests, it is the meeting point or culmination of Seven arts.

An orientation session on IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) and NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation) was conducted by Dr. Karuna K, SCAS NAAC Coordinator.

A glimpse of the memories of SCAS Alumni was also presented to the students.

Dr. Paul Chacko, Head, Department of Physical Education, gave an overall idea on the Physical Education Department and Fitness World, another feature of SCAS.

The Toastmasters of SCAS attracted the freshers by briefing about the Toastmasters International followed by the sudent representative of the Management fest.

At 3.00 pm students were handed over to the respective departments for introduction of the department, HOD and for necessary instructions. The programme came to an end at 4.00 pm.
