Report on English Association Inauguration ESPERANZA 2k23
The PG Department of English Language and Literature conducted the Department Association Inauguration on November 7, 2023. The event was formally inaugurated by the distinguished scholar and academician, Dr. Shyam Sudhakar (Assistant Professor, St. Thomas College Autonomous, Thrissur). The meeting was presided over by Rev. Fr. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan (Executive Director, SCAS), Dr. Mathew Paul Ukken (Principal, SCAS), Dr. Rani M J, and Dr. Joy K L (Vice Principals, SCAS), and Prof. Dr. Sanil Raj J (HOD, Department of English, SCAS). The inaugural ceremony was followed by the oath-taking ceremony of the new office bearers of the association for 2023-24. The newly elected office bearers of the Department Association are as follows: Ms. Beegam Jahana (II BA English) – Secretary, Mr. Rohan R (I BA English) – Joint Secretary, Ms. Shifa Mol (III BA English) – Treasurer, Ms. Shilpa K (I MA English) – I PG Representative, Mr. Abhay Rajendra Menon (II MA English) – II PG Representative.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Shyam Sudhakar delivered the keynote address on the topic “Poetry: Boundaries and Beyond.” The enlightening session aided the students in understanding the cultural and historical associations of poetry and how poetry reflects the cultural ethos of its time. The newly appointed association secretary, Ms. Beegam Jahana, proposed the vote of thanks. The program was then followed by a few cultural events performed by the students and concluded at 4 pm.
