The Department of English, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara, with its vision towards achieving a meaningful relationship between the Alumni and the institution organized the Lantern-Alumni Talk series on 7th August 2020. The students being the most important part of the institution, graduate into alumni and become the most important long-term stakeholders of their Alma mater. The event provides an opportunity for the alumni to interact with the faculty and the students and helps build an everlasting relationship. The event was exclusively organized for UG and PG students of the department, from 11:45, am to 12:30 pm in the online mode through the Google meet application. This interaction was planned with the objective of reconnecting with the alumni as well as showcasing their success stories to inspire budding literature enthusiasts. The maiden talk of the series was delivered by Ms. Angelin Joy, 2015-18 BA English alumna. After an Introduction by Asst.Prof.Sheena Sarah Winny, Head of the Department, and warm welcome accorded by Ms.Divya Unnikrishnan of 3rd semester MA, the session commenced. Being a multifaceted talent, Ms.Angelin Joy ignited the spark of liberal arts in the audience. She also mentioned the various opportunities and rewarding experiences that one can aspire for in this field. The event culminated with a Question and Answer forum, wherein students got an opportunity to clarify their doubts or seek more insights on any of the covered themes by interacting with the alumna. The meet concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms.Dona Saju of 5th semester BA on behalf of the department, to the alumna for a remarkable session that successfully sowed the seeds of inquisitiveness, hard work, dedication, innovation, and determination in the budding talents. The session was inspiring, brilliant and wonderfully delivered making it equally gratifying and fruitful for the entire department. The students enthusiastically participated in this rekindling and had a good eye-opener on liberal arts and current trends.
The Department of English, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara, with the overt aim to develop the imaginative faculties of students by encouraging them to give free expression, proudly organized the second talk of the Lantern-Alumni Talk series on 30th October 2020. The event was exclusively organized for UG and PG students from 11:45 am to 12:30 pm in the online mode through the Google meet platform. The event saw active participation from the students who had wholeheartedly embraced the maiden lecture. For the second installation in the series, we had Ms. Chinnu Padayatty Sabu, 2013-16 BA English alumna. After the warm welcome and a brief introduction of the alumna by Ms.Amrita Nandakishore of 2nd BA English, the session commenced. Ms. Chinnu, who is currently pursuing her MA in North American Studies, Marburg, Germany, provided the students an insight on exploring the avenues of knowledge abroad. She continued narrating her experiences of student life abroad and reinstated the importance of following one’s unending passion for life. She highlighted the relevance of literature in this current scenario, about how words can still give hope in the darkest of times. The session was truly inspiring the students to take up risks in their life and rekindled the true essence of passion in them. What followed is a Question and Answer forum, wherein students got an opportunity to raise their queries regarding the current trends in higher studies and their future prospects. The meet concluded with a vote of thanks to the alumni for a fruitful session that ignited the students’ minds with aspirations for a better tomorrow. Ms. Keerthana Ramesh of 2nd MA English delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the department.

The event saw active participation from the students who had wholeheartedly embraced the first and second Talks. For the third installment in the series, we had Mr. Sankunni K., 2015-18 BA English alumnus. After the warm welcome by Ms.Sheena Sarah Winny, Head of the Department, and a brief introduction of the alumnus by Mr. Bharath Krishna of 1st semester BA English, the session commenced. Mr.Sankunni, who is presently working as a Copy Editor at Times Now, while reminiscing his days at Sahrdaya shared his story of getting his job and repeatedly emphasized the importance of enrolling in internships whilst pursuing undergraduate studies. Students found the session both enlightening and a beacon towards exploring the new avenues of media and journalism. The meet concluded with a vote of thanks to the alumnus for a fruitful session that ignited the students’ minds with aspirations for a better tomorrow. Ms. Elizabeth Mariya Dias of 4th semester MA English delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the department.
Postgraduate Department of English of the Institution, organised the fourth edition of Lantern Alumni Talk Series on 02.07.2021 from 3.30 to 4.10pm on Google Meet. Ms. Nitha Paul, 2013-’16 BA English batch alumna led an interactive talk session with 60 students and 10 members of faculty of the department on the online platform. She is currently placed as Student Counsellor, Christ Academy Group of Institutions, Bengaluru. The event commenced with a moment of silent prayer, followed by Welcome Address delivered by Ms. Sheena Sarah Winny, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department. Ms. Ashna Manuval, 2nd semester MA English, introduced the alumna with a detailed profile presentation. The event concluded with vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Gauri E, 2nd semester BA English. Assistant Professor Metty Joby was the moderator.
Postgraduate Department of English of the Institution, organised the fifth edition of Lantern Alumni
Talk Series on 21.10.2021 from 1pm to 1.40pm on Google Meet. Ms. Aswathy M.S, 2018-’20 MA
English batch alumna led an interactive talk session with 51 students and 7 members of faculty of
the department on the online platform. She is currently placed as school teacher in Bahrain. The
event commenced with a moment of silent prayer, followed by Welcome Address delivered by Ms.
Sheena Sarah Winny, Assistant Professor & Head of the Department. Ms. Anagha Das, 3rd semester
MA English, introduced the alumna with a detailed profile presentation. The event concluded with
vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Akkappilly Sarika, 5 th semester BA English. Assistant Professor Metty
Joby was the moderator.
The Postgraduate Department of English organised the sixth talk of Lantern Alumni Talk
Series from 11.30am to 12.15pm, on 28 January 2022, on Google Meet. Ms. Roshima Uday,
the alumna (MA English 2017-’19 batch), engaged a wonderful interactive session on a
platform comprising 73 participants (staff and students of the department). Presently a
research scholar, she is the founder of RANC – Roshima’s Academy for NET Coaching. The
session was insightful with the alumna sharing her life experiences and briefing the
participants about the career prospects for English graduates. The session commenced with
a moment of prayer followed by the welcome delivered by Ms. Sheena Sarah Winny,
Assistant Professor and Head of the Department and subsequently the Talk. Riya Davis of 4 th
semester BA English and Mirna Fathima of 4 th semester MA English interacted with the
alumna during the interaction session. Ms.Haneena C.T of 4 th semester BA English sounded
the note of gratitude. Dr.Rani M.J, Vice Principal was also present at the Talk. Assistant
Professor Supriya K K was the moderator.
