DAY 1

Date: 26/12/2021
Volunteers of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies reached St. Joseph’s Higher
Secondary School, Velupadam by 2:30 p.m. The 7 Day camp was inaugurated by the
Panchayat President Mrs. Ajitha Sudhakaran. The programme was commenced by a
prayer by NSS volunteers. It was followed by the welcome speech of the Principal, Dr.
Mathew Paul Ukken and the presidential address of the Executive Director, Rev. Dr.
Devis Chenginiyadan. The felicitation was done by the school Head Master Mr. Eugene
Prince. Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Akhil Anto, NSS Programme Officer. After
the inauguration, volunteers went to their own assigned rooms and started cleaning
from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. It was followed by an ice breaking session and a tea break
till 6:00 p.m. Then volunteers were allotted time for freshening up till 6:45 p.m.
A class was conducted from 7:00 p.m. about Sign Language by Mr. Livin C. L.
where he taught us to sign different alphabets and common salutation. The session was
so interesting and interactive. It helped us to understand how to sign and communicate
to the deaf people. Dinner was arranged after the session from 8:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A
speech competition was also conducted after dinner till 9:45 p.m. All volunteers
participated actively. At 9:45 p.m. there was a concluding meeting after which all went
to bed at 10:00 p.m.

DAY 2

Date: 27/12/2021
On 27 th December 2021, the day started at 5.00 a.m. Volunteers gathered at the
assembly hall by 6:00 a.m. and began the assembly. At 6:15 a.m. sharp, the
volunteers including the teachers went out for a morning walk. The morning walk
ended at 8:00 a.m. which was followed by a nutritious breakfast. At 10:00 a.m. the
volunteers were taken to the nearby bamboo forest to clean it. The volunteers cleaned
the forest until 12:30 p.m. After that, volunteers came back into the camp and had
drinks and refreshment. At 1:00 p.m. volunteers had lunch followed by an interactive
session by Fr. Cleetus Kizhakkudan, regarding family and relationships. The session
lasted till 4:00 p.m. It was really an informative session and it helped volunteers to
have a positive outlook on life. The session also brushed up on the values that all
should follow in our family life and in relationships.
At 4:30 p.m. volunteers had tea and snacks. Volunteers had their play time till 6
:00 p.m. It really helped to boost energy and to get rid of all tiresomeness. At 7:00
p.m. volunteers were asked to gather in the main hall and had a debate session
regarding the topic “the age to get married being raised to 21”. All the volunteers
showed active participation. At 8.30 p.m. volunteers had their dinner. At 9:00 p.m.
volunteers had cultural programme. After that volunteers and teachers discussed the
time table and the chores that volunteers had to do for the following day. The meeting
dispersed after a short silent prayer. At 10:00 p.m. volunteers were off to bed.

DAY 3                                                     

   Date: 28/12/2021

 

On 28th December 2021, the day started with a rise up bell at 5:00 a.m. At 6:00 a.m the volunteers reported in the assembly hall and began the assembly. At 6:15 a.m. volunteers went for a morning walk till 8:00 a.m. Volunteers had their breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The Executive Director  of  Sahrdaya college of Advanced Studies, Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan visited the volunteers and gave a motivating speech, and also wished the volunteers a great success for the camp. Then the volunteers were divided into groups and cleaned the school in which the volunteers were staying. The volunteers cleaned both the high school and higher secondary blocks. At sharp 12:00 p.m. the NSS volunteers had a session on the topic “Man and Animal Conflicts” by Mr. Prem Shameer, RFO Varandarapilly. The session was very useful as this was a rare topic and the volunteers were informed about the basic knowledge that all should have about forest, man and their relationship. The lunch break was from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. After that volunteers had a great entertaining session by CEO of Mathrubhumi club FM Mr. Manoj Kammmath. He taught about self-confidence, attitude and strong parent-child bond.

At 4:00 p.m. there was a tea break followed by play time which is very essential for strong physical fitness and mental health. At 6:00 p.m. volunteers had their bath and refreshment periods. Then at 7:00 p.m. there was a general NSS volunteer awareness session by the NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Akhil Anto of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies. The dinner was at 8:00 p.m. At 8:30 p.m. there was a wonderful interactive session between the volunteers and teachers with a campfire, recollecting and sharing all the experiences of the day. Finally, at 10:00 p.m. the volunteers happily went to sleep after the night prayer.

DAY 4                                                    

Date: 29/12/2021

 

The fourth day of the camp began as usual for the volunteers. They rose at 5 a.m. did their daily routine and then went for their daily walk by 6 a.m. On returning at 8 a.m. they freshened up and had their breakfast. At 8.45 a.m. they went for field work. The volunteers cleaned the ground, garden and continued their work from the previous day. At 11.30 a.m. they went and freshened up to attend a session by Joseph sir. The session began at l1.45 a.m. Mr. Joseph Kiran George, who is a script writer took the session based on film criticism. During this Covid era, where movies and the internet is so popular, this was a much needed session. Joseph sir explained the steps in filming such as pre-production, production, post-production; how the movie characters are casted; and behind the scene events and many more. The volunteers were very active and cleared their doubts on the topic involved, that is the film industry and its stereotypes. The session ended at 1.15 p.m. The volunteers had their lunch at 1.30 p.m. and allowed to rest.

The next session was at 2:15 p.m. held by Mr. K.G. Pran Singh, who is the Husur Shirasthar, Thrissur. His session was about music info. Sir didn’t take a class but he interacted with the volunteers and conducted a competition among the volunteers based on their knowledge on music. The session was very lively and a break from the routine for the volunteers. The session ended at 4 p.m. The volunteers resumed their field work and then they had their play time from 5 p.m. till 6 p.m. The volunteers then freshened up and reported back at 6:45 p.m. Then they had their personality development session which made the volunteers to talk about a topic on the spot and many other activities to develop their character. They had their dinner at 8:30 p.m. and held the cultural events at 9 p.m. The volunteers had a great time at the cultural events which included singing, dancing and the whole participation of the volunteers. The volunteers were then sent to bed by 10 p.m.

DAY 5                                                       

Date: 30/12/2021

 

The day started with a rise-up bell at 5:00 a.m. The volunteers reported in the assembly hall at 6:00 a.m. and began the assembly. The volunteers along with the teachers went for morning walk at 6:15 a.m. and returned by 8:00 a.m. and had an energetic breakfast. After breakfast the volunteers are divided into seven groups and each group were assigned specific tasks and the volunteers cleaned the school grounds and made vegetable gardens. At 11:45 a.m. volunteers had a small drinks break. Our respected Vice Principal Dr. Rani M J visited our camp and gave us sweets for our hard work. Then we continued our work till 1:00 p.m. We had our lunch till 1:30 p.m. and after the meals we had an interactive and entertaining session which was handled by Mr. Raju David Chittilappilly, Regional Deputy Director of Employment at National Employment Service Kerala (Retired), and this session lasted till 4:00 p.m.

 

Later we had our tea break, and thereby play time which is very essential for a strong physical fitness and mental health. All the volunteers had their bath at 6:00 p.m. and we gathered at the assembly hall at 7:00 p.m. The volunteers had an interactive session with Mr. Reji P Joseph Sir, Sub Collector of Thrissur, about the recent issues that are happening around us and also shared his experience in his carrier life. The volunteers had a great time with Reji Sir in clarifying their doubts and their thoughts as civilians. In that wonderful session, our honorable guests K G Pran Singh, Husur Sirasthar Thrissur and Rev. Dr.  Devis Chenginiyadan, Executive Director of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies Kodakara, were also presented. The session concluded at 8:30 p.m. and we had a delicious dinner, and also received sweets as a token of love from Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan. At 9:00 p.m. we had cultural programmes organized by the volunteers as well as the teachers. We all gathered around the camp fire and each student shared their experience. After the session, all went to bed at 10:00 p.m. happily by a night prayer.

DAY 6                                                       

Date: 31/12/2021

 

 

The day started with a rise up bell at 5 a.m. The volunteers reported in the assembly hall at 6:00 a.m. The volunteers went for a morning walk by 6:15 a.m. till 8 a.m. Volunteers had their breakfast at 8:30 a.m. The school campus was cleaned by volunteers and they filled soil in grow bags for planting vegetables. At 11 a.m. volunteers along with teachers went to Chimmini Dam, and cleaned the dam and surroundings by collecting the plastic waste. The volunteers had their lunch by 2 p.m. On the way back from the dam, we visited the suspension bridge and had a good time there. We reached the camp by 6:00 p.m. The volunteers had a speech competition at 7:00 p.m. and they participated actively. The dinner was provided at 8 p.m. followed by cultural programmes of the volunteers. There was also a personal experience sharing session as well. At 10 p.m. the volunteers happily went to sleep after the night prayer.

DAY 7                                                          

Date: 1/1/2022

 

The NSS volunteers commenced the day with a rise-up bell at 5:00 a.m. All the volunteers reported at 6:00 a.m. in the assembly hall and conducted the morning assembly. The volunteers along with the NSS   coordinators went for a walk into the woods and returned back at 7:30 a.m. The breakfast was provided at 8:00 a.m. The volunteers were assigned with different duties within the campus. The duties included cooking, cleaning, gardening and waste management. The volunteers wrapped up the duties by 1:00 p.m. The NSS volunteers had their lunch at 1:30 p.m. Then it was the turn of NSS volunteers to share their experience.

 

The Executive Director of SCAS Dr. Fr. Devis Chenginiyadan and Finance Officer Fr. Shaju Chirayath  also joined with NSS unit for the session. All the NSS volunteers were happy and they expressed their sincere gratitude for all the supporters and well-wishers. The volunteers assured that they were successful in building their character through this seven day camp. The meeting dispersed at 4:00 p.m. and had a tea break.  The volunteers were then directed to pack the things and to clean the respective classrooms and surroundings. The camp was dispersed by 5:00 p.m. and the volunteers returned back home with a bagful of memories.
