REPORT

The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’ is observing every year on 26 June. It is observed to spread awareness about the problems caused because of drug abuse around the world with the aim of strengthening action and cooperation to achieve the goal of a society free of drug abuse.

The Department of Human Excellence of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, in association with the  Anti-Narcotic Cell of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, conducted a poster making competition on 21st June 2022 to raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse and to ensure a drug free and clean campus.

The Atmajyothi poster making competition was conducted at the study table on the first floor of the college from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. The programme commenced with a prayer song. Ms. Carolin Antony, the Programme Director of the Department of Human Excellence delivered the welcome speech.

Respected Executive Director of the college Rev.Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan delivered the keynote and she pointed out the motive of the Anti- Narcotics Cell and necessary steps taken by the cell for a safe and drug free campus.  He also mentioned about the increasing misuse of narcotics by the younger generations and the various measures adopted by the college management to help the students.

The competition’s concept and rules were briefly explained by Mr. Satish Nair, HOD of the Department of Human Excellence. The session concluded with a vote of thanks from Chandini V Nair, the Programme Coordinator of Anti- Narcotics Cell. She extended her words of gratitude to the keynote speaker for his valuable words. She also thanked the coordinators, management and the students for being a part of the programme.

This year, the topic was ‘Narcotics is a dirty business’. 21 students  participated in the poster making competition. They portrayed their anguish against these social problems by pouring colors on paper, through art and their ability to say a lot without saying a word and made this event successful.

Eventually, Adhith Chandra M R ( II BCOM FIN, ACCA), Crijin C G  (II BCOM TAX CMA ) and  Haripriya K R ( III BSC Geology) bagged the 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.

Outcome:

helped to create anti-narcotic awareness among the students and promote a campaign for a positive and happy attitude towards life
