In connection with Environment Day 5th of June 2017 , a Special Assembly was conducted in SCAS. In the absence of Fr. Titus Kattuparambil, our Executive Director , and Principal Dr. K J Antony, the meeting was presided over byDr. Rani M J , HOD of English Department. The Chief Guest of the day was Ms. Sony T.L., Assistant Professor , in Department of Economics, in Sri. C. Achutha Menon Government College, Thrissur – the President’s Award winner of 2014, for the Best Program Officer of NSS, in India. The program started with a prayer, followed by Welcome Speech by Prof. Davis K J ., HOD of Department of Geology. SCAS has formed a ‘ Nature Club” with students from various classes to protect and save Nature and pass this message to the public. The Club was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest of the Day , handing over a sapling to the club members. This was followed by Inagural Address – where the importance, purpose and relevance of the Day was given in detail. The speaker expressed the need for involvement of the upcoming generation to protect the environment. Message on World Environment Day was given by Ms. Akheena, 3rd Year B.A. English, representing the Nature Club. A Malayalam poem on Environment was recited by Ms. Sreelakshmi K.S., of 2nd Year B.Sc. Psychology . The meeting was winded up with Vote of Thanks by Ms. Angeleena of 3rd Year B.A. English . In the After- noon, the volunteers of the Nature Club , distributed saplings of ten varieties of trees, provided to us , by the Department of Social Forestry , to 300 houses around SCAS. The volunteers were given a warm welcome by the households and their efforts were highly appreciated. The Nature club also decided to support the “ Golden Jubillee Green Campus Campaign “ 2017- 18 ‘ , (GJGCC ) observed in connection with Golden Jubilee of the University of Calicut.
