The Association Inauguration- SMART- of the Department of Management Studies was conducted on 19 November 2025 at the Seminar Hall of SCAS under the banner of SMART (Sahrdaya Management Association for Refining Talents). The programme aimed formally inaugurate SMART for the academic year and to communicate its mission of identifying, nurturing, and refining the managerial talents of every student. It also sought to enrich students with updated industrial knowledge through an expert session on digitalization in the banking sector. The event began at 2:00 PM with a prayer, setting a reflective tone for the programme. This was followed by a warm welcome address by Mr. Savio Francis Fernandez, Head of the Department, who elaborated on the vision and purpose of SMART, an association established in 2015 to strengthen students’ managerial abilities. He emphasized the importance of platforms that help students discover strengths and develop confidence in their skills. The welcome address highlighted the core philosophy of SMART—empowering students through continuous learning and participation. The programme progressed with the annual report presentation by Ms. Seena A.O, Programme Coordinator, who detailed the various activities, initiatives, and accomplishments of the department association SMART during the previous academic year. Her report provided a comprehensive overview of the department’s commitment to enhancing academic quality and promot student development. The Presidential Address by Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyaden, Executive Director, further emphasized value-based education, leadership qualities, and ethical responsibilities as essential traits for management graduates. This was followed by the Department of Management Studies Association Inauguration- SMART Principal’s Message by Dr. Joy K. L, who encouraged students to actively engage in SMART activities to stay competitive and industry-ready. The formal inauguration was carried out by Ms. Renjini R, Regional Manager, State Bank of India, who also delivered the inaugural address on “Digitalization in the Banking Sector.” She highlighted the 24×7 accessibility of digital banking services, Kerala’s progress in promoting financial inclusion, the growing importance of cybersecurity, and emerging financial technologies such as Cryptocurrency and e-Rupee. Her insights provided students with relevant and practical knowledge about the rapidly evolving digital financial ecosystem. Following this, the oath-taking ceremony led by Dr. Karuna K, Vice Principal, inspired students to uphold the values and responsibilities associated with SMART. The programme also featured felicitation by Dr. Sheeba M.B, Dean of Academics, who appreciated the department’s efforts and encouraged students to utilize such opportunities for personal and professional growth. The chief guest was honoured by the Principal as a token of appreciation for her valuable contribution to the event. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Ms. Varsha R, Secretary of SMART, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and students who contributed to the success of the programme. After the formal session, an expert talk by Ms. Renjini R offered deeper insights into digital banking trends, cybersecurity concerns, and career opportunities for management students in the financial sector.
