Report on the Awareness Session

The Department of Management Studies, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara, organised an online awareness session on topic “Introduction to Securities Market and SCAM Awareness” for the First Year, Second Year, and Third Year BBA students. The session was conducted on 13th and 14th November 2025 through Google Meet. The resource person for the programme was Ms. Valentina D’Cruz, Manager, Regulatory Department, National Stock Exchange (NSE), Kochi. The programme commenced with a warm welcome address delivered by Ms. Seena A. O., Programme Coordinator, who highlighted the importance of financial literacy and scam awareness among budding management professionals. Ms. Valentina D’Cruz delivered an insightful and interactive talk that began with an introduction to the structure, components, and functioning of the Indian securities market. She elaborated on key concepts such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, stock exchanges, and the role of regulatory bodies like SEBI. The resource person also explained how the securities market contributes to the economic development and why young investors must gain accurate knowledge before entering the financial system. Real-life examples and simple illustrations helped students understand the processes clearly. The second part of the session focused on SCAM awareness, where the resource person discussed common types of financial scams, including phishing, fake investment schemes, Ponzi schemes, online trading frauds, and identity theft. Ms. Valentina emphasized the importance of verifying sources, recognising red flags, and protecting personal  financial information. Students were given practical guidelines on safe financial behaviour, responsible investing, and how to report suspicious activities. The session concluded with a Q&A segment where students actively interacted with the speaker, clearing doubts and sharing their experiences.
