REPORT OF INTER INSTITUTIONAL HACKTHON

Programme objective: Showcasing Talent: Hackathons provide a platform for students to demonstrate their abilities and gain recognition for their hard work and creativity.

“Useless Projects: Kerala’s most audacious make-a-thon” was a one-day hackathon organized by TinkerHub SCAS in collaboration with the Institution Innovation Council. The event was held on Friday, August 8, 2025 from 9 AM to 4 PM, at the college campus. With the theme “Hacking the Absurdity”, participants aimed to uncover real-world problems and test solutions. Unlike traditional hackathons, this event had no specific themes, providing a platform for unlimited creativity and ‘all-in-all solutions’. As a result, 30 TinkerHub Campus Chapter students and offered exciting prizes, including a 6-month scholarship.

Participation and Projects

The event saw a strong turnout with a total of 54 students participating. Participants formed teams of two to five individuals, resulting in the submission of 27 distinct projects. The participants showcased their innovative spirit by leveraging a variety of technologies, including micro-controllers and even AI, to bring their absurd ideas to life. For many participants, this was their first hackathon experience. The organizers’ supportive atmosphere made it a particularly enjoyable and memorable introduction to the world of collaborative project creation. A key component of the event was the peer review process, where participants evaluated each other’s projects. This not only encouraged critical thinking but also fostered a collaborative and supportive environment. The use of AI and other cutting-edge tools in project development was a main challenge for participants’ eagerness to explore and learn new technologies. The projects submitted were a testament to the students’ creativity and technical skills.

The End Goals of a Hackathon

Beyond the fun and the prizes, events like “Useless Projects” serve several critical purposes that align with the core goals of a hackathon: Accelerated Learning: Hackathons provide a condensed and intense environment for participants to learn new skills, tools, and technologies in a short period. Problem-Solving & Innovation: They challenge participants to think creatively and develop novel solutions to problems, even if those “problems” are intentionally useless in this case.

Teamwork & Collaboration: Participants learn to work effectively in teams, delegate tasks, and collaborate under pressure. Networking: Hackathons bring together like-minded individuals, fostering connections and building a community of innovators.
