Basketball Court Inauguration
Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies (Autonomous), Kodakara, proudly inaugurated its newly constructed basketball court on 15th September 2025, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s commitment to promoting sports and holistic student development. The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Joy K. L, (Principal of Sahrdaya College), who extended heartfelt greetings to the esteemed guests, dignitaries, faculty members, students, and sports enthusiasts present. The presidential address was delivered by Rev. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan, (Executive Director of SCAS), who emphasized the importance of physical education in academic institutions and commended the collective efforts that led to the successful completion of the basketball court project. The official inauguration was marked by a lamp lighting ceremony, led by the distinguished chief guests: Mr. P. C. Antony, (General Secretary, Kerala Basketball Association) Ms. Steffy Nixon, (Indian Basketball Player) Both guests also delivered the inaugural address, inspiring the gathering with their insights on the role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and leadership. Their words resonated deeply with the young audience, motivating them to pursue excellence in athletics with dedication and passion.
As part of the ceremony, South Indian Bank, Irinjalakuda Regional Office, extended its wholehearted support through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. On this occasion, Ms. Mary P. Alex, (Chief Manager, Irinjalakuda Regional Office), presented a cheque to the college management, symbolizing the financial contribution made by the Bank towards the development of the new basketball court. She also delivered a felicitation address, appreciating the college’s efforts in creating a balanced environment that promotes both academic learning and athletic achievement.
A video presentation was then showcased, highlighting the journey of the basketball court’s construction and its advanced features, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to building modern sports infrastructure for the benefit of its students.
The formal function concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Paul Chacko, (Head of the Department of Physical Education), who expressed deep gratitude to all the dignitaries, sponsors, faculty members, and students who contributed to making the event a resounding success.
Following the inauguration, a spirited shootout conducted by Ms. Steffy Nixon, renowned Indian basketball player, creating an atmosphere of excitement and celebration. This was followed by an exhibition basketball match between Sahrdaya College and K.E. College, which was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience. The match marked the beginning of a new sporting legacy at Sahrdaya.
