Green Vibes : A Step Towards Sustainability 

World Environment Day Observance 2025

The NSS Unit 291 of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies organized an Environment Day Observance on June 5, 2025, in association with the Chalakkudy Forest Division. The event featured a series of activities aimed at promoting environmental awareness and encouraging sustainable practices.

The programme was officially inaugurated by Sri. Jobin Joseph, Range Forest Officer, Chalakkudy Forest Division. In his keynote address, he highlighted the importance of sustainable development and stressed the urgent need to combat plastic pollution, especially in forest areas. Sri. Ranjith, Deputy Range Officer, delivered the Environment Day message, emphasizing the urgent need to reconnect with nature and take responsible steps to protect it. He highlighted the importance of conserving native plant species, restoring green cover, and eliminating the use of single-use plastics that harm forest ecosystems. Stressing the role of youth as ambassadors of environmental change, he encouraged them to lead by example in promoting sustainable practices at home and in the community. He reminded the gathering that even small actions—like planting a tree, conserving water, or saying no to plastic—can lead to significant positive change. Concluding his message, he noted that “every day should be an Environment Day” and inspired students to carry forward the spirit of environmental stewardship throughout the year.

As part of the event, Volunteer Secretary Poornima Sankar led a powerful Environment Day pledge. The pledge inspired students to embrace nature as a true companion and to choose eco-conscious living over harmful habits like drug addiction. pledge, which focused on the theme “Environment as our friend, not drugs”—encouraging a lifestyle rooted in nature rather than drug addiction.

 The event commenced with a welcome address by student coordinator Parvathy V.R. and concluded with a vote of thanks by Volunteer Secretary Milan Manoj, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the dignitaries, participants, and volunteers for their valuable support and contributions. The programme was both interesting and enlightening, leaving a lasting impact on all the students involved.
