The PG Department of Psychology, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a vibrant and thought-provoking celebration of World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 at Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies. The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability, aligning with the global theme for this year—“Beat Plastic Pollution”, which emphasized the urgent need to eliminate plastic waste and adopt eco-friendly alternatives. The day’s proceedings began with a specially curated morning assembly that brought together students and faculty in a collective reflection on our responsibility toward the environment. As part of the assembly, Ms. Aswathy Anilan, a student of II M.Sc. Psychology, delivered an engaging and insightful speech on Environmental Psychology, exploring how environmental factors influence human behavior, mental health, and overall well-being. Her talk highlighted the deep interconnection between nature and psychological resilience, encouraging listeners to foster a healthier relationship with the natural world.
A key highlight of the program was a symbolic gesture by Mr. Suresh A. K., Head of the Department of Psychology, who presented a sapling to the Executive Director, Rev. Fr. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan, as a mark of commitment to ecological restoration. Following this, a tree planting drive was held within the college campus, during which five saplings—Red Jack, Mango, Avocado, Guava, and Chinese Apple—were planted. This activity underscored the importance of tangible, ground-level efforts in contributing to environmental sustainability. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from key dignitaries, including Rev. Fr. Dr. Devis Chenginiyadan (Executive Director), Dr. Joy K. L (Principal), Dr. Karuna K (Vice Principal), Rev. Fr. Sibin Vazhappilly (Finance Officer), Dr. Britto Joseph (Assistant Professor, Geology), Dr. Sheeba M.B ( Dean of science), Mr. Suresh A. K. (HoD of Psychology) and Faculty members of the department—Dr. Sr. Jessy George, Ms. Keerthana Mohandas, Ms. Farseena K. G, Ms. Fida K, Ms. Aparna Satheesh, Ms. Anagha Gopidas, Ms. Kathlyn Bennett, and Ms. Archana N—along with students from Second Year B.Sc. Psychology and Second Year M.Sc. Psychology, actively participated in the planting activity.
The event not only created an awareness of environmental issues but also offered a platform to connect ecological sustainability with psychological well-being. Through the integration of academic insight and practical action, the celebration successfully encouraged the college community to reflect on their ecological footprint and to embrace environmentally responsible behaviors.
