PG Department of psychology organized an awareness program on behalf of World Autism Awareness day called Illumine on 2nd April 2024. The aim of the program was to spread awareness and combat the social stigma associated with autism. The students of psychology department were assigned with the task of spreading awareness and teaching the students of various departments of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies on what is autism and its importance. Under the guidance of the H.O.D Suresh A.K and teachers Dr. Preeji K.P and Ms. Varsha P Sadanandan, the students went to all first and second year U.G classes and gave a short 15 minute presentation on autism, its symptoms, causes and the importance of World Autism Awareness Day. The students pinned a students pamphlet on the notice board of each class. On the basis of the orientation given, one student representative from each class was selected to participate in an Autism awareness quiz (Knowledge Knockout) conducted on the same day. As a result of the successful event conducted students of Sahrdaya College of Advanced studies gained a deeper understanding on Autism and the associated social stigmas that come with it especially on social media. The students also learned of the harmful after effects of such stigma.
