In celebration of Premchand Jayanti, the Western Eastern Language Department (WELD) organized an Online Hindi Quiz Competition on July 31, 2025. The event was conducted virtually and remained open for participation throughout the day, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
The quiz was themed around the life, works, and literary contributions of Munshi Premchand, one of the most renowned and influential writers in Hindi and Urdu literature. The objective of the competition was to inspire students to engage with Hindi literature and to honour the legacy of Premchand on his birth anniversary.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, attracting a total of 168 students from 13 different educational institutions. The competition was open to all interested students, regardless of academic stream or level, reflecting WELD’s commitment to promoting linguistic and cultural awareness.
Participants were tested on various aspects of Premchand’s work, including his notable stories, novels, themes, characters, and his overall contribution to Indian literature. The quiz was designed to not only assess knowledge but also encourage participants to delve deeper into the literary richness of Hindi.
As a mark of encouragement and recognition, E-certificates were awarded to all participants who scored above 50%. These certificates were emailed directly to the eligible participants after the successful evaluation of the quiz responses.
The event was well-received and appreciated by both students and faculty members. It served as a meaningful tribute to Premchand and reinforced the importance of celebrating literary heritage through academic engagement.
The Western Eastern Language Department looks forward to organizing more such events in the future to promote interest in languages and literature among young learners.
