Western and Eastern language Department in association with the Department of Malayalam conducted an International Seminar on the topic ‘’ Une Exploration de la Culture Indo-Européenne”, An Exploration of the Indo-European Culture on 27th January 2026 in the Decennial Hall from 9.30 to 11 am. The subject experts present were Dr. Leena Samuel, HoD, Associate Professor in Hindi, Panampilly Memorial Government College, Dr. Ambili M.V, Assistant Professor in Malayalam, Christ College, Irinjalakuda, Fr. Linson Thattil, German Language Expert, St. Mary’s Seminary, Thrissur, Ms. Véronique Poitrault, Former Manager, Tourism Sector, France.
The Seminar started with a prayer following which Fr. Dr. Davis Kannampuzha, German Assistant Professor, delivered a warm and heartfelt welcome address. Dr. Karuna K., Vice-Principal conveyed the Presidential address in which she emphasised on the need to value and appreciate the cultural diversity of both India and the european countries. She went on to speak about how this heritage influence art, music, architecture, cuisine and also the tourism industry. Ms. Véronique Poitrault inaugrated the Seminar and delivered the Inaugural address. Further, Fr. Sibin Vazhapilly, Finance Officer, gave the Felicitation address and Ms. Vineetha R., Assistant Professor in French, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The inaugural session concluded with the National Anthem. The students were then separated into 4 groups on the basis of their language, Malayalam, Hindi, French and German.
The Malayalam talk was regarding the history of Kerala and how the various regimes and rules shaped the lifeline of the State and its people. The Hindi talk underlined the prevalence of Hindi language and its cultural impact in the North Indian scenario. The expert also extolled the greatness of the immensely rich Hindi literature. The French speaker who had vast industry experience in various positions across the globe in the tourism industry, explained the numerous scopes and opportunities available to the students who can explore entrepreneurship in the hotel business, catering, tour organization and entertainment sector. The German seminar focused on the various factors which contribute to the distinct German features of the culture and society and the expert also debunked certain myths and stereotypes linked to the German way of life. Altogether, the International Seminar turned out to be very interesting and informative for the students and they expressed eager anticipation for such programmes in the future.
