As part of the Meet a Great Mathematician series, a presentation on the eminent Swiss mathematician Leonhard Euler was delivered by Ms Ann Nelsonon August 22, 2025. The session aimed to familiarize students with the life, works, and mathematical contributions of one of history’s most prolific mathematicians.

Ann Nelson’s presentation covered the following aspects:

  •  Early Life:Education under Jacob and Johann Bernoulli, and his early interest in
    mathematics.
    Major Contributions:
  • Euler’s Formula linking complex exponentials and trigonometric functions.
  • Euler’s Identity– regarded as one of the most beautiful equations in mathematics.
  • Polyhedron Formula (V – E + F = 2).
  • Euler’s Method for solving differential equations.
  • Nine-Point Circle and Euler’s Number (e)
  •  Legacy: Euler’s vast influence on modern mathematics and physics through his
    numerous works and publications.

The session on Leonhard Euler, presented by Ann Nelson, was both informative and inspiring. It successfully met its objectives by deepening students’ knowledge of mathematical history and motivating them to pursue excellence in the subject.
