A field visit was conducted for final-year Mathematics , Physics ,Geology and Chemistry students on 12th November to Sangamagrama, a historically significant place in Kerala. They were accompanied by two faculty members, Ms. Divya E from the Department of Mathematics and Ms. Esmi Davis from the Department of Physics. The team started their journey at 10 am. Sangamagrama is known as the birthplace of the renowned 14th-century mathematician and astronomer Madhava, who is considered the founder of the Kerala School of Astronomy and Mathematics. His pioneering contributions laid the foundations for mathematical analysis, long before similar developments occurred in Europe During the visit, students were introduced to the historical background of Sangamagramam and its significance in the development of mathematics. Faculty members explained Madhava’s role in initiating the Kerala School, especially his work related to infinite series, trigonometric functions, and early forms of calculus.Students also explored the cultural setting of the locality and interacted with residents. The visit provided meaningful insights into how a small historical town played a major role in shaping advancements in mathematics and astronomy. The field visit to Sangamagramam was highly educational and inspiring. By learning about Madhava’s legacy and the historical importance of the region, students developed a deeper respect for India’s contributions to mathematics and astronomy. The visit successfully enriched their academic understanding through direct field experience.
