The PG Department of Commerce organised the Talk Series on “GST Overview and Framework” with Sri. B. S. Haridas (BAL, LLB), Joint Commissioner of State Tax, State GST Department, Government of Kerala, serving as the resource person. The programme was designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the Goods and Services Tax system and its relevance in the Indian taxation structure. The session commenced with an introduction to the concept, objectives, and evolution of GST, highlighting its role in simplifying the indirect tax system and promoting uniformity across the country.
Drawing from his extensive professional experience in tax administration, the resource person elaborated on the legal and structural framework of GST, including its types, compliance mechanisms, and administrative procedures. The session was enriched with practical illustrations and real-life examples that helped students connect theoretical concepts with real-world practices. An interactive discussion followed the talk, during which students actively engaged with the resource person, clarified their doubts, and gained valuable insights into career opportunities and professional applications related to GST, taxation, and finance.
