The Department of Geology, in association with the IQAC of Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies, Kodakara, conducted a institutional visit to the Gemology Department of St. Aloysius College, Elthuruth, on February 6, 2025. A total of 17 students from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of B.Sc. Geology, along with two faculty members from the Department of Geology, participated in the institutional visit. Students explored the Gemology lab, where they observed a diverse collection of gemstones. Each specimen was explained in detail by the faculty and students of the department. Following the lab visit, students had a hands-on experience in the instruments of gemology, which was guided by Mrs. Akhila G. They gained practical knowledge of various instruments used in gemstone studies, including the microscope specialized for gem analysis, dichroscope, polariscope, spectroscope, specific gravity measurement instruments, and refractometer.
