The Department of Social Work, Sahrdaya College of Advanced Studies( Autonomous) Kodakara, organized a two-day Alumni Engagement Programme on “Yoga and Mindfulness” on 15th and 16th May 2026 at Kalari Realm ,Thrissur. The workshop witnessed the participation of 31 students and aimed to promote mental wellbeing, self-awareness, and holistic therapeutic understanding among social work students.
The sessions were led by alumnus Mr.Amal Babu, an MSW graduate, Kalaripayattu practitioner, therapist, and hypno healer. The programme focused on the connection between mindfulness and Psychiatric Social Work, highlighting the importance of emotional regulation, stress management, and mind-body healing approaches in professional practice.
The workshop included yoga participation sessions, mindfulness exercises, and introductory sessions on Clinical Hypnotism and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The sessions provided experiential learning opportunities and introduced students to alternative therapeutic techniques relevant to psychosocial interventions and mental health care.
An interactive feedback session was conducted at the end of the workshop, where participants shared positive responses regarding the practical learning experience and the relevance of mindfulness techniques in social work practice. The programme successfully strengthened alumni-academic collaboration while enhancing students’ knowledge and self-reflection skills.
